Is this true?

Is it true that if you exercise before you eat anything for the day, that you will burn more fat? Or is it just an old wive's tale? I'd like some scientific explanations to back up answers if you can. Thanks!
Answer:
Let's see if I can help here. The time of day that you exercise has no impact on the total amount of CALORIES you burn. If you run 20 minutes before breakfast at the same intensity that you ran 20 minutes after breakfast, your total calorie consumption (and the time that it took to begin burning those calories) is equal. Now, WHERE those calories you burn come from can be impacted by WHEN you exercise. So, yes, there is some evidence that you may burn more fat when you exercise before your first meal of the day. Here's why:There are three sources of stored energy (calories) in your body: carbohydrates, fats and proteins/amino acids (typically proteins bound up in your muscle.) Carbohydrates are the most readily available, and your body will go to them first for energy. Carbohydrates are actually stored in your body in the form of glycogen, which can be stored in your liver (liver glycogen) and muscle tissue (muscle glycogen). In most cases, when you are moving around or doing exercise, your body will typically burn a 50/50 mixture of carbohydrate calories and fat calories to fuel your activity. The body only taps protein for fuel under extreme circumstances -- when you are in a very carbohydrate depleted state and fat is scarce. There are times -- for example when you first wake up in the morning and you haven't eaten -- when your liver glycogen levels are very low from not consuming food during the night. Therefore, doing cardio while liver gylcogen is low can shift the carbohydrate to fat calorie burning ratio in favor of fat. In this case, you can burn more fat than normal, although the amount of total calories you burn is still the same as if you were burning carbohydates. The type of exercise you do also can impact whether you tend to burn fat or carbohydrates. Running, which is aerobic, will tend to burn more fat, than weight training, which is anaerobic and relies more heavily on carbohydrates to fuel short bursts of activity. Kansas State University has done some research on this that indicates that a kilogram of fat is oxidized (burned by the body) sooner when exercising in a fasted, morning condition than when you perform the same exercise in the afternoon. The source is below.
I wish I could help you but to me it seems like you want to try it but you are not sure if it would work. The question you are asking sounds like you are asking if it is a waste of time.....i think that it will not work but if you eat right you wont gain weight and thats what matters. right?
The reason that this is true is because there is nothing in your system first thing in the morning so there is only fat too burn
whereas if you eat something and than go to the gym you will be burning off what you just ate because it takes hours for food to actually go through the human system it is more effective to go before you have eaten first thing in the morning
although I believe going anytime of day is better than not going at all
